Black Cherry

(Prunus serotina)

The largest of the native cherry trees, with white flowers and dark red fruit changes to black in the fall, this tree has it all -- ornamental features and shade. The fruit provides food for over 33 species of birds and many mammals.

Plant on the east or west side of your home for maximum energy benefit.

Sun or shade: Full sun to partial shade

Soil conditions:  Acid soil, Moist, well-drained soil

Moisture Tolerance: Dry, moist

Fall color: yellow or orange. White flowers

Wildlife value: Black cherry is highly utilized for nesting sites; flowers attract many pollinators; fruit serve as food source for a variety of animals
